Please be sure to share this information with families you know that may need some assistance with their holiday gifts for children this year. It is very important that they understand the process, rules and arrive early. The line can be long and you are typically standing outside.
The Toys for Tots program will hold open houses this month to distribute toys to parents and guardians of needy children.
They will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 16 and 17 at Guardian Storage Solutions, 2839 Liberty Ave., Strip District. Parents and guardians should bring a photo ID for themselves, a birth certificate for each child (children up to age 12 are eligible) and proof of need — welfare check stub, food stamp card or other proof of government assistance.
Sadly, this information isn’t easy to obtain. The local Toys for Tots website is here. The concept is good, the donors and volunteers are generous, but the process isn’t the most efficient or fair. So it is critical that you reach out to people who may not have participated in the past and help them access it.
