On Wednesday May 9, police discovered Karla Patricia Flores-Pavon had been choked to death. in her North Dallas apartment. Karla’s name has been alternately spelled Carla by police reports documenting her death. Karla was 26 years old, just beginning her life. Blogger Monica Roberts shared this:
Karla is the 9th person we have lost to anti-trans violence this year in the US. She’s the seventh trans person of color and the second trans Latina we have lost in the US in 2018.
She also the first trans person in Texas we have lost this year. This murder also is infuriating me not only because it happened in my home state, but because she was just 18 years old.
She was just beginning to embark on her life journey, and who knows what Karla could have accomplished had she been allowed to simply live her life.
According to the Dallas Voice, a suspect is mentioned in the police report but there are not details. If you have any details, please call the Dallas Police Department or Dallas Crimestoppers at 214-373-TIPS (8377)
Rest in power, Karla. You deserved so much more time on this Earth and to be treated with kindness & compassion.
This post has been updated to correct Karla’s age from 18 to 26 after our primary sources made that change. We are deeply sorry for sharing inaccurate information, particularly in this memorial post.
The list of trans people killed in 2018 thus far. Note that people have different numbers based on different factors. The most important thing that unites us all is that we want the violence to stop. We need to keep asking ‘Where is the outrage?’ During 2017, we lost at least 25 trans neighbors. May 2018 be more merciful.
