LGBT Volunteerism – Time to Step Forward

GLENDA is an amazing resource. I’ve participated both as a volunteer and as an organization using their talents. It is a locally grown treasure. I’m sad that they are in dire straights. I wish I had the time to make a commitment. The best I can do is to ask you to consider doing so. Other groups like Gay for Good are also good, but there’s a difference between a local group with true deep connections and a chapter of a national group. Not better or worse, just different. Please consider how you can help. We can’t afford to lose this vital connection with the larger community. Now more than ever we need to build these relationships.

Dear Friends,

GLENDA is in immediate need of committed and active persons for leadership and committee positions. GLENDA has been experiencing leadership turnover in addition to declining participation in projects and socials. From inception, GLENDA has always been a volunteer driven organization; subsequently decline in participation has created a significant impact.

In order for GLENDA to continue into the future, 20 individuals are needed to commit to filling the following roles: board of directors’ members, outreach committee chair, projects committee chair and outreach/projects committee members.

An emergency SAVE GLENDA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 15th at 6:30 pm. (location to be determined) If you are interested in helping to Save GLENDA by taking on an active leadership role, we ask that you attend this meeting AND RSVP by March 2, 2012. Sufficient interest must be expressed in the form of an RSVP by March 2, in order to move forward with the meeting.

RSVP: Nneka Hawthorne – nnekaha@yahoo.com or (412) 521-0055

We look forward to hearing from you and working together to Save GLENDA!

Sincerely,

GLENDA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Please give this some thought. I can testify that more than one person who did not feel comfortable with “gay people” told me that they were very impressed that “gay people” gave up their free time to support them and their children. GLENDA has worked magic. Let’s blow a little magic back.
