Equality Matter has the story. In 2010, in spite of intense denials that they were anti-gay Chick-Fil-A’s foundation donated $2 million to anti-LGBTQ organizations. Including known hate groups.
Hmmm.
- Marriage & Family Foundation: $1,188,380
- Fellowship Of Christian Athletes: $480,000
- National Christian Foundation: $247,500
- New Mexico Christian Foundation: $54,000
- Exodus International: $1,000
- Family Research Council: $1,000
- Georgia Family Council: $2,500
You can follow the link to read more about these organizations. I’ll leave it at this – each of these organizations has clear ties to a strong anti-gay agenda. This isn’t some rogue person with a flimsy affiliation spouting off. These are leaders, agendas, missions and individuals who receive honors.
So please don’t tell me you have any justification to spend money at Chick-Fil-A and continue to call yourself a Christian ally. At least be honest enough to admit you simply like the waffle fries enough to hold your nose while you are there. But while a Christian ally might reach out and try to dialogue with hateful Christians, they do not subsidize their hate. That is wrong.
Hey, I know there’s no official boycott and its hard to get people to change their consumer choices. I’m simply saying you need to be honest. Don’t justify or rationalize a business donating money to The Family Research Council as anyway “Christian.” It is decidedly not.
