Mitt Romney may have nailed the coffin shut on his Presidential run with the release of this horrifying commentary about Americans. More details here.
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…
“Our message of low taxes doesn’t connect…so my job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. What I have to do is convince the five to 10 percent in the center that are independents, that are thoughtful….”
If you’ve considered not voting, I hope this will give you pause … there are very few of us in the LGBTQ community who would not be considered part of the 47% – after all, we want entitlements and perceive ourselves as victims of homophobia, right? Mitt makes exceptions for Log Cabin Republicans which translates into upper middle class and upper class white gay men who have economic interests that offset their gay identity. Poor delusional souls who forget that their bedroom activities are protected by the same Supreme Court Case as my uterus, but I digress …
This is what they really think of you behind closed doors. And they count on the fact that you are alienated, apathetic or otherwise engaged on Election Day – situations they sum up as you not caring. I know that isn’t true – I know you care about your family, your community, your schools … I know you care and take responsibility … I also know that when we are victimized by those with more power than us, we aren’t victimizing ourselves. I know that people struggle and sometimes they want to give up, but that we keep going.
There is a lot I could rip into here, but I think Mitt’s lack of concern for Americans of modest means pretty much sums it up.
October 9, 2012 is the last day to register to votein the 2012 General Election!
