What PFLAG Means To Me

I am not a member of PFLAG, but I have attended meetings on and off for several years. I’ve been impressed with their accomplishments at both providing much needed familial connections for LGBTQ persons and for building relationships in the community.

I am very grateful for the work that PFLAG is doing in the outlying counties around the region. I believe they are the ambassadors most needed to change the system quo.

In 1972, Jeanne Manford simply marched alongside her openly gay son, Monty, to proclaim her message that loving our LGBTQ children is the right thing to do. As such , she became a mother to millions.

My parents are good people and treat us well. But they aren’t going to march in a parade and that’s okay. I can’t imagine how it would feel to see my parents in a public parade with a “I love my lesbian daughter” shirt.

This tribute from Rachel Maddow touched me deeply.
