Last night, I learned of a new development in the investigation of Andre Gray’s murder. Police issued a warrant for the arrest of Raymond Schifino also known as Hoover Smallz. From KDKA:
Raymond Schifino, 29, has been charged with arson, theft, abuse of a corpse, animal cruelty and tampering with evidence.
According to the criminal complaint, Schifino detailed how he stabbed Andre Gray‘s dog to death and then mixed its blood with the blood of Gray to try and throw detectives off.
Gray went missing from his Howley Street apartment in Lawrenceville back in October. Police found blood in his apartment. A few days later, they found his car, which had been set on fire. His body was found in the Ohio River in West Virginia on March 20.
You can read earlier updates. There’s also much more detail at the Post-Gazette. I’m unclear why it took months for the police to make this arrest and wonder if it is significant. But mostly I’m just sad and angry to relive this story again.
I spoke briefly with Andre’s mother, Victoria Gray-Tillman and she simply asked me to pass along the family’s request that you continue to keep them in prayer.
I’m asking you to do one thing further. As we move forward in this investigation and the eventual trials, we can help by keeping a focus on Andre’s life. We need less than $1,000 to meet our goal and create a memorial to Andre and his dog Boss. Please consider a donation.
