Call To Action: Read-In of ‘Our Bodies Ourselves’ at Senator Toomey’s Office Weds

On Wednesday, January 18, concerned Pennsylvanians from all over our region will host a read-in of legendary book “Our Bodies Ourselves,” coupled with a Donation Drive for sanitary supplies outside of Senator Toomey’s Station Square office.

Location: 100 West Station Square Drive Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Please bring sanitary supplies to donate! These items will be distributed through local channels to organizations working with people who need them.

If Senator Toomey is comfortable legislating our reproductive organs and taking away our ability to seek reproductive health care, then he and his staff should at the very least be comfortable discussing reproductive health. Talking about our bodies is not shameful or stigmatizing, and we will not be silent. If our legislators are going to shut down the spaces in which we advocate for and take care of our health and sexuality, we’ll do it in their offices. The idea for this event spawned from an incident that occurred last week in Senator Toomey’s Philadelphia office: a constituent called his offfice to voice her disproval about the likely repeal of the Affordable Care Act and defunding of Planned Parenthood, and the call ended abruptly after she used the word “menstruation” and was reprimanded for her “graphic” language.

Hosts so far: Planned Parenthood of Western PA, One Pennsylvania, PGH Lesbian Correspondents, Tuesdays with Toomey
