Rene, 48, is a Lesbian from Mercer County who wants to belong #AMPLIFY

Name: Rene

Age: 48

County of Residence: Mercer County, formerly Washington County

Pronouns: Her

How do you describe your identity? Lesbian

Please describe your coming out experience. Where did you find support? What challenges did you face? I was in college and fell in love with a woman while I was engaged to a man. I (we) didn’t know any other gay people. It took a while to come to terms with it. We only had each other.

How would you describe yourself NOW in terms of “being out”? I’m not obvious about it at work.

Tell me about the first LGBTQ person whom you met. What impact did they have on your life? Finding my second girlfriend let me know I wasn’t alone

Past or present, favorite LGBTQ character or creator in television, film or literature? Please tell us why. Not the listed categories but the Indigo Girls let me know I wasn’t alone

How do you stay informed about LGBTQ issues? Social media.

Describe your geographical community. Gay friendly for the most part

Describe your local or regional LGBTQ community. It’s a pretty gay friendly area.
