Dog House Wanted by the PghCatLadies

We are preparing for what might be a rough winter, including our two feral visitors Oksana and Mx. Pajamas.

Shelter is critical for homeless cats. We repurposed an old insulated dog house by filling it with straw and draping an old comforter across the entrance. We also have two smaller coolers that have been slightly modified to use with straw as a warm and dry space. These are always used, but we don’t necessarily know by whom. Still, they are welcome to seek shelter.

What we need this year is a feeding station to place off of our deck and in the yard. I’ve found a great model online – weatherproof legs, shingles, easy to sanitize, but with shipping, the price is a hefty $150.

We want to avoid more plastic bin feeders and get something durable. I’ve been researching this for months.

Someone suggested that we modify another dog house. We can either use one with a hinged roof or cut out a section of a more typical house. We can also paint if necessary so it blends into the yard.

So I’m putting out a call to see if anyone has a gently used dog house that is out of commission. We can pick up from Pittsburgh region.

Ideally, it should be weatherproof, elevated, and in good condition. Here are some examples:

If you have a dog house that needs a new purpose, please reach out to me.

We have plenty of bowls and plan to buy a heated water bowl. Our yard has lots of safe nooks and crannies. Hopefully, we can be ready long before winter hits.
