My Birthday Wish (Almost) Came True

Sunday was a good day. Our friend Don helped to assemble our new feeding station for our feral cats. I was so excited – watching cats eat in the rain has been sad and we had no solid shelter as an alternative. So I asked for a shelter as my birthday gift – I turn 49 on October 22.

Then I upped the ante and aimed to raise enough to buy three of them – one for us and two to share with feral cat caretakers on the Northside. Our goal is $490.

I’ve added my birthday gift money from my MIL to the contributions so we now have $270. I bought the one unit and have my fingers crossed that we’ll raise the other $220 this week. Don will assemble and deliver. Also big shout-out to Laura’s mom for remembering my birthday.

The cats, Oksana and Mx. Pajamas, were skeptical. To be fair, we did also winterize the back deck, moving their winter shelters (the kitty condo), too.

So much upheaval for two kitties who just want a nap on a sunny day.

By days end, they were eating out of the new station and napping in their fresh layer of straw inside the condo. My heart soared. Then I went inside to take care of our seven sick resident and foster cats – a big round of a viral Upper Respiratory viruses. Four vet appts and two trips to the pharmacy so far. Oh, a happy birthday to me …

So here’s to early birthday wishes.

Thank you to everyone who contributed. Please remember that if you are able to chip in to help homeless cats, there are lots of options from supporting local shelters and rescue groups to donating cat food to existing cat colonies to starting your own colony.
