Pennsylvania to Require Face Masks Whenever People Leave Their Homes

As a founder of The Pittsburgh MasQUe ProjecT I was pleased to learn that PA Secretary of Health Rachel Levine M.D. and Governor Tom Wolf have significant strengthened the guidelines for masquing up in Pennsylvania. Under today’s directive, everyone must wear a mask

Gov. Tom Wolf and health secretary Dr. Rachel Levine on Wednesday expanded on their previous order that everyone must wear masks inside businesses, saying masks are now required whenever anyone leaves home. It takes effect immediately.

There are some exceptions for accommodating disabilities and for situations where masks present a safety hazard around mechanical equipment. There are no exceptions for “I incorrectly believe this infringes on my civil rights” or “it makes my breath stink” or “Just making a  quick trip down the block, no mask needed.” Nope, nope, and nope. Also there is no such thing as a mask exemption card. I am a person with a disability and my partner Laura is an attorney. Requesting an accommodation does not require you to be an asshole and most of us do not take that approach. Stop dragging disabled folx into your pit of disdain and ignorance.

We brought this on ourselves because we won’t wear masks, stay home, or maintain six feet social distances. So in one week here in Allegheny County, a lot of businesses had to close and now mandatory masks. Also, lots more sick people from our neighborhood – 110 people tested positive since yesterday in Allegheny County.  That’s effective July 1, 2020.

We have to start to do the right thing. The national picture is horrifying. This could be a plague that brings down the United States because people keep putting politics ahead of healthcare.

If you are wondering where to get face masks, keep reading. If you need free face masks, keep reading.

So #MasQUeUP Western Pennsylvanians – we value you.

ake care of yourself!
