When I’m driving, well I know I’m gonna see,
I’m gonna see the yard signs put up just for you
When I’m walking, yeah I know I’m gonna see
I’m gonna see neighbors speaking out just for you
When I’m biking well I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the one who delivers some signs just for you
And when I hear hate well I know I’m gonna be
I’m gonna be the one who stands up next to youAnd I would make 500 signs
And I would find 500 more
Just to be the one who brought a thousand signs
To keep ye safe behind your own door
The #ProtectTransKids yard sign project is going along nicely. We have received requests for 520 signs to date – since June 24. That’s not even a month, it is 26 days to be exact. That’s a lot of signs in such a short period of time.
See for yourself …
We are waiting on our most recent delivery of yard signs from Commonwealth Press to fulfill the 500+ orders, but we definitely need MORE signs. And that means we need more donations.
We do not charge anyone for signs, it is all funded by donation.
Each signs costs $12.
Batch of 50 costs $580
Batch of 250 costs $2600
Your donations today will go right back into ordering additional signs.
As of today, we have donations to cover an addition batch of 50 and that’s it. If you want us to carry on, we need more donations. We need you to ask people to donate. (We are asking, too.)
Other bits of information
The next hearing before the magistrate judge is scheduled for Tuesday July 26 at 10 AM. This should be the decision on the single count of harassment involving the neighbor.. Supporters are encouraged to be at the magistrates office before 10 AM. We do not know how long we’ll be there. Please bring water, wear a hat, there’s nowhere to sit outside and we cannot block the sidewalk with chairs. Bring a sign. The family really appreciated this show of support at the first hearing. Note – the street is under construction so leave some time to find parking.
Magisterial District 05-2-42; Honorable Leah Williams Duncan; directions by Google maps; 3880 Perrysville Avenue; Pittsburgh, PA 15214; Tel 412.321.0116
We’ve created a Facebook group for this project. EVERYTHING will be moderated because this group will include youth. If you’d like to volunteer as a moderator, please reach out to fox@pghlgbtq.org – we will only accept offers from people we actually know to ensure the safety and peace of mind of the family. Please join us #ProtectTransKids – Pittsburgh
We are using a Google Group to share information via email, especially about sign availability. Please check your email and your spam folders. We add people as they request signs. We will continue to use that tool.
A few folks have indicated that they donated and expected that would trigger a sign request. It will not. You must complete the form itself to request a sign. Any requests over 2 signs will be contacted – if you need a batch, we’ll have to discuss how to fund that. If you do have donations to cover that request, please include the information in your sign request. Or email folx@pghlgbtq.org We appreciate your flexibility and patience as we make sure to keep our growth in line with the family’s vision.
Some folks have created artwork or cards for Ke’Juan and her family. They love it! Please give to the distributor of your signs or reach out to us to collect it from you.

The followng tasks could use a helping hand
- Deliver signs as needed
- Contact LGBTQ organizations and groups throughout Western PA to ask them if they would like signs (research the groups, use email/phone to contact, keep track)
- Moderators for our new Facebook group. Requires being on Facebook daily. For right now, moderators must be know n to PLC organizers or the O’Donnell/Collar family.
- Collect bottled water for the July 26 hearing
Most important of all – please make sure the trans kids in your life and neighborhood know that you support them. Say it to them. Tell their family. Tell your family. Tell your elected officials. Tell the school district.
Send them a sign.
