Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities (PLC) is creating a project to honor trans neighbors whose lives have been lost to the terror campaign sweeping the nation. As of today, there are 26 individuals on that list.
We will be creating a memorial at our booth at Netroots Nation to honor their lives and acknowledge their deaths. This will include a new large candle for each neighbor. We will light battery powered tea lights, but the larger candles will be there to remind us.
After the event, the candles will be auctioned off to benefit the Protect Trans Kids project, channeling grief and loss into action to protect our young people. Yes, this has been cleared with the O’Donnell-Collar family including Ke’Juan.
We are accepting donations of new candles for this purpose. Calling all makers and candle collectors to share something from your personal stash to honor these 26 lives (as of today, may increase by the event) and then bring their light to work supporting trans youth in our region. If you have a candle you love or one that reflects the care and intent of this project, please consider donating.
