Recently, a school district in Beaver County – South Side School District – implemented guidelines about nondiscrimination at the recommendation of their Solicitor. They did not formally pass policies. A science teacher refused to comply with the requirement that he use the students’ pronouns and name (versus their pronouns and name assigned at birth.) The District suspended him and people protested.
At the following School Board meeting, the teacher was reinstated and the guidelines were dumped. Now the district is working with the Pennsylvania Family Institute to design policies. That last bit is not good news. The district will hopefully inform the policies with more than a faith-based approach.
A friend of mine attended the most recent School Board meeting and reported out some disturbing commentary by the community members in attendance who repeatedly slammed Title IX and how the Biden Administrion has directed it to be applied. They also wanted to fire the current Solicitor and spoke against the school district protecting the privacy of student’s sexual orientation and gender identity.
This is all disturbing. But isn’t all the Beaver County represents. There are many good people who believe in fairness and treating children with respect. People who are already reaching out for #ProtectTransKids signs and stickers to show their support publicly.
So we are asking the community to help. We are trying to raise $2000 total to cover 100 signs and 500 stickers. The signs will be distributed in partnership with the Ambridge offices of Central Outreach Wellness along with private volunteers.
If you think the School District is moving in a dangerous direction, please help spread this positive message.
If you think the recent radio ads broadcast in the region by 8 stations are dangerous, please help spread a positive message.
If you want youth and students in rural communities to see signs as often as youth in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, please help spread this positive message.

Beaver County residents (and anyone) can request signs and stickers individually. We hope to raise enough in donations to print a batch of 50 for Central Outreach to distribute.
