Nothing changes on New Year’s Day

This is the first year in my life I didn’t feel melancholy about the changing of the calendar. It has nothing to do with the content of 2022 and everything to do with the context of my mental health journey.

Sure, it is a good time to reflect and reconfigure your life.

Or, not.

As a kid and young adult, I used to feel a real sense of dread about the year changing, almost as if I could make time stop if I just clenched onto it hard enough. I have no idea why. But I do know this is the very year I had none of those types of pangs.

I’m ready for life rolling on, so to speak. I have no new planner, no resolutions, no big plans built around the construct of time. And it so great if those sorts of things are helpful or fun for you. No judgment here. Just a quiet sense that nothing changes on New Year’s Day.

Not even the menu.

Yeah
All is quiet on New Year’s Day
A world in white gets underway
I want to be with you
Be with you, night and day
Nothing changes on New Year’s Day
On New Year’s DayI will be with you again
I will be with you againUnder a blood red sky
A crowd has gathered in black and white
Arms entwined, the chosen few
The newspapers says, says
Say it’s true, it’s true
And we can break through
Though torn in two
We can be oneI, I will begin again
I, I will begin againOh, ohOh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, ohOh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, ohAh, maybe the time is right
Oh, maybe tonightI will be with you again
I will be with you againAnd so we’re told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
Though I want to be with you, be with you
Night and day
Nothing changes
On New Year’s Day
On New Year’s Day
On New Year’s Day
