20 Years as a Lesbian Couple

Yesterday, we celebrated our 20th anniversary. Like many couples our age, we celebrate the day of our ‘coupling’ and the date of our wedding. In wedding years, we are on year two.

Our day was low-key. I picked up groceries, Laura cooked dinner. I didn’t feel well so we kept it simple and I laid down after the meal. Turns out I have a ‘trifecta’ of illness – UTI, sinus infection, and ear infection. So blah.

As we ate at the kitchen table, I looked around with contentment – there was no pressure to perform for anyone, even ourselves. This is a relationship goal – eating dinner with groceries just bought, rinsing off my plate in the sink, talking about the day’s events, and just being in the moment.

It is a good moment.
