‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ Musical Deemed the Best Our Reviewer Has Seen

Elijah went to see the Cultural Trust production of Mrs. Doubtfire The Musical as part of the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh series.

We are experimenting with format, right now relying on embedded TikTok videos with closed captions. Elijah learns and expresses himself best using audio or video formats. Until we get video editing software, this is our compromise.

Thus, Elijah is the future of musical theater. He’s 12 now, but has been to more shows than most adults I know. He watches a lot of videos on the how & why of videos games, movies, tv shows so he’s well versed in that level of critique. He notices things many of us overlook simply because we never think to consider.

In this review, E explores the relationship of Daniel to his children and his brother, who happens to be a married gay man. E was also careful to note how this show addressed the clearly transphobic elements from the movie. Not only does it reflect the values of E’s generation, it shines a light for how we bring these amazing stories forward minus the trauma and harm. We can make that trade off and be better people for it.

And we can listen to 12 year olds to help us understand art better. He doesn’t want to only see kids programming. He wants to see programming that reflects his life experiences and challenges him.
