This Holiday Pet Food Drive Update Brought to You By Math, Dental Treats, and a Land Rover

It is almost #Caturday so time to update you on the Dr. John P. Ruffing VMD Pet Pantry Holiday Drive.

The pantry serves cat colony caretakers, feeders, TNRs, rescues, and love income pet owners. We prioritize the 18 neighborhoods of the Northside along with adjacent communities. You can register at this link: bit.ly/PetFolxPetFoodPantry

Currently, we have 50 households enrolled most of whom are taking care of community cats – 650+ right now. Also, most of them have their own pets. Not every household is actively seeking donations, but we are here if they need us.

Donation information can be found here.

This week, we received

  • 12 bags of food various brands and sizes
  • Over 200 cans of food.
  • 16 containers of dental cat treats
  • 2 boxes of chemical hand-warmers to keep food and water accessible in cold weather
  • Miscellaneous other stuff

So tonight I loaded up Ursula with these donations, drove to the pet food pantry, hauled it up to the second floor. Then I had to do math. Tally up the pounds. Divide out the cans.

Ursula’s inaugural run with cat food supplies

That was my Friday night. Worth every minute. This is important work. Homeless animals need so much, more than I can provide. But I can help get them something tangible – decent food. I can also support their caretakers. Those are important factors that improve their odds of having a decent life – along with clean water, shelter, TNR/veterinary services. It matters.

So as long as you continue to send us bags and cartons of food, I’ll keep hauling and mathing.

Special Request – treats for feral cats seems so innocent, but dental disease is a huge health concern. So we are asking for donations of Greenies dental treats. Like a little stocking stuffer for each household. They are on the wishlist and can also be purchased pretty much anywhere. Think of Hermey!

Donations can be dropped at two locations 24/7

  • 1213 W. North Avenue Pgh 15233. Some steps. Food can go in the bin on the porch.
  • 1440 Faulsey Way Pgh 15233 Backyard address. Food can also go in the bin with the yellow sigh.
  • Contact us directly to make other arrangements.

Thank you for your support!

All donations added. This is enough for one month’s distribution.
