What I Learned From a Month of Daily Blogging

It has been several years since I participated in National Blog Post Month or NaBloPoMo. I published a post every day during November this year.

Particularly challenging this November as I navigated a fine line between disengagement and sanity. Sanity did not always prevail.

Several posts were deep dives inward, exploring my traumas and a recent series of painful events. Frankly, I’m glad to set that aside for a while.

Unlike previous NaBloPoMos, I felt a weight or heaviness with each post. It seems fair to attribute that to current events and the ominous days ahead. But some of that is just me.

I’m glad I completed the challenge even while I’m unsure if I’d do it again. There’s something satisfying about finishing a task. Still, I stirred a lot of pots that won’t stop simmering as we roll into December. Was it worth it?

Well … I mean can we ever really determine that? Not me, at least not after 30 straight days of ripping apart my soul on my laptop.

The reality is that we are in the end stage of blogging. Many bloggers are now restylized as content creators using the 84 million platforms available to them. Others have migrated (back?) to email newsletters a la Substack. This is all good. Content is being created, some of it good and some of it not. The same was true with blogging.

This is a good thing, my friends. I’m not going anywhere, but I’m thrilled to get to witness the emergence of these new media.

Even GLAAD made a bold move by restructuring the Outstanding Blog category in their annual awards.

Outstanding Independent Journalism (formerly Outstanding Blog)
Recognizes a blog, newsletter or news site, based on the quality of its overall coverage throughout the year. Outlet must be independent, with a majority of content from a single contributor. Outlet may consist of original content and/or aggregated content with original commentary, posted in chronological order.

I do realize I still have a lot to say. I’m grateful to have created my own forum to do so. 2025 will be my 20th year of blogging. That’s pretty awesome.

If you are still with me, why not subscribe to the blog?

I think I’m ready for year 20. Just imagine what it might hold …
