Here’s What is Coming to Pittsburgh Live Theater This Spring

Among the many losses I’ve experienced these past two years, my connection to local live theater has been a significant source of grief. Without a car, I must rely on others to transport me and hope it is a show they’d like to see as well. And I’ve lost my best theater companion. It is hard to find the right person to attend and analyze a show. The irony that my theater introduction was titled ‘I Am My Own Wife’ is not lost on me.

There’s a layer of sadness there, too.

My preference is matinee followed by meal to serve as a buffer before reentering day to day life. The magic is still there, echoing in your mind as you process what you’ve just experienced. Live theater opens up my life to possibilities I’m not willing to cede back to what feels like a smaller life. I need to sustain that enchantment long enough to pull a piece with me into a blog post and seer it into my brain.

We’ve been fortunate that many local theater companies offer us media passes. They aren’t a freebie and I quickly admonish anyone who suggests I can get free tickets.I have learned that they are work. It is work to promote a show, work to review it, sometimes to interview a cast member, and so forth. Then to promote the review. It takes time and energy. It is not paid word

I have friends who get tickets in exchange for sponsorships and don’t use them. If you are a person like that, please contact me. I know lots of people who want to go, but cannot afford it. I wrote a post last year about the many barriers that keep people out of the theater. I’m not an aficionado by any stretch, but I am a true believer in the power of theater to transform our lives.

I’m going to try very hard to be more active with local theater this spring.
