Photos: Community Cats in Cold Winter Weather

The trail cameras on my deck captured stunning images of our cat colony this week. The camera is next to their heated water bowl and lined up with the two heated shelters. The gallery is here

We see them at vulnerable moments, escaping the cold or readying to face it. Proximity to the water dish ensures I get a good look at every cat every day.

Two of the cats seem to sleep in the shed, a dry option, but probably not warm. I have reusable heating discs that I rotate to keep the water/food semi-warm and offer a little room for toes to get warmed up. I use disposable chemical hand warmers as well.

Cast

  • Oksana – gray & white
  • Mx. Pajamas – short haired black cat
  • Callie – fluffy calico
  • Tony DiMera – very fluffy black and brown cat
  • Plus miscellaneous cats who occasionally stop by.

These cats have all been spayed/neutered and ear tipped. They have these resources. They need calories – notice how they move every few hours unlike a housecat that might sleep for ten hours at a time.

If you can contribute to the Winter Pet Food Pantry Drive, that would be great. They are survivors, but vulnerable. Our Dr. John P. Ruffing Pet Food Pantry now has 40 households enrolled. Please help these neighbors with their critters.

Special Request – treats for feral cats seems so innocent, but dental disease is a huge health concern. So we are asking for donations of dental treats.

Donations can be dropped at two locations.

  • US Steel Workers lobby 60 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh, PA 15222
  • 1213 W. North Avenue Pgh 15233. Some steps. Food can go in the bin on the porch.
  • 1440 Faulsey Way Pgh 15233 Backyard address. Food can also go in the bin with the yellow sign.
  • Contact us directly to make other arrangements.
