I was pretty disgusted when I read that Iggy Azalea will be headlining Pride in The Streets, but not particularly surprised. Rather than recreate the wheel of all the reasons why you should be disgusted, I opted to focus on something else – the lack of information about the many *other* interesting things happening to celebrate or explore LGBTQ Pride.
So I created a calendar. It is just a Google Calendar that is accessible to the public. I kicked it off with information about Pittsburgh Black Pride and the first ever Pittsburgh Latin@ Pride. Then I went through my Facebook events invites to find other events. It is woefully incomplete. And that’s where you come in.
Please add events. They can be in May, June, July or whenever. They can be any size, any location and any type of event with a few caveats. Google doesn’t allow me to just give you permission to add events so you’ll have to email me at pghlesbian (at) gmail (dot) com or message me on FB.
- They must be LGBTQ centric or LGBTQ welcoming/affirming.
- Please use respectful language in your event description.
- Please specify if there is a fee or cost to attend so people know.
That’s it. It isn’t official anything. It is just a way to help centralize information for people. It might be a bust, it might be popular. I don’t know. But it is something and I hope it helps.
This is a work in progress so if your event isn’t on the list, it is not an intentional slight – I’ll continue to add what I find and hope you’ll add events as well. The link is http://bit.ly/PghPrideCalendar
