Podcamp Pittsburgh is Around the Corner

Very excited to once again be an individual sponsor of this year’s Podcamp Pittsburgh, verion 6.0.

In the guide of the Pittsburgh Tote Bag Project, we’ll be part of a panel with The Pittsburgh Foundation’s newest social media initiative.  To find out what it is, you’ll have to attend or read oneline later.

We are also excited that the Podcamp organizers are letting us hold a tote drive on-site.   We’ll be using social media to promote this angle and hopefully get a good response from the attendees.

We’ve relied on social media to drive a lot of our projects with the Tote Bag Project.  It has brough us volunteers, donors, media contact and so forth.  At this pont, Facebook is pretty much the hub of our project.  Thanks to a donor, we’ll be moving that blog (like this one) to WordPress where it wil embedded in an official website.  That’s very exciting news because we’d like to drive more people to the website so they can donate.  Getting things in place prior to Podcamp will be helpful.

Last year, I was part of a political blogging panel. It was flattering to be there b/c of my coverage of political events, not just LGBT issues.  Quite a few local media folks were in attendance and the dialogue was very constructive.  It really made me think about how I’m sourcing my material.  The debacle with LezGetReal is a perfect example, even though I had no way of knowing of the sham.

So save the dates – September 17 and 18, at Point Park University.  And bring your tote bags (or donate the bag you get at the conference).
