Persad Presents ‘Origins of Pride’ Lecture on Sunday

Nexus Event! Not to be Missed…

MARCH 6, 2016, 3-6 P.M. at Persad Center

A program about LGBTQ History and the “Origins of Pride,” presented by Ted Hoover, staff at Persad Center.

You may know that the Stonewall Riots sparked the birth of the modern LGBTQ  movement… but do you know who Barbara Gittings was? Did you know that the earliest “Gay Rights” group in America was founded in 1924… and why it only lasted four months? “A History of Pride” explores the struggle for LGBTQ civil rights in the United States in the 20th century and the creation of a national LGBTQ movement. You’ll learn about Frank Kameny, the Comstock Laws, Jeanne Manford, the Mattachine Society, the arithmatically-challenged  Washington D.C. Park Service… and why a woman named Brenda is the reason America celebrates Gay Pride every June.
