Here’s What’s Up With Pride Week and Us Lesbians

OMG, this week is packed full of opportunity, information and engagement. Plus, fun!

Here’s what you need to know

Right Now

Donate to support the Peoples Pride March 2K17. Any additional funds will support SisTers PGH, a local group led by a trans woman of color.

Donate to help repaint/touch up the ‘Cat Car’ art car. Our artist friends will be touching up the cat, redoing the lettering and adding pink pawprints to the roof.  Our plan is to do this at a Pride event so you can see the artistic magic of the Most Wanted Fine Art team in person. Funds go for paint, to compensate the artists for their work.

Register for the LGBTQ Media Training on Thursday from 1-5 PM at Persad Center, sponsored by the ACLU of Pennsylvania, Three Rivers Community Foundation and Persad. Facilitators will be Jodi Hirsh of Sequal Consulting and moi. Communications pros, journalists, students, etc should register. Scholarships still available.

Want to support the training and encourage more people to attend? We could use some donations of coffee and snacks. (All of the sponsorship funds are allocated to stipends for the community panelists and speakers.) If you can chip in some cookies (especially special diet types), drinks, etc – you can either bring to me or Jodi on Wednesday or drop at Persad by noon on Thursday. Any extra food and drinks will go to the youth programs meeting that evening at Persad.

For all the details on Pride events, check out the Queer Pgh Pride Guide (we didn’t make the list this year but it’s still awesome) And this great piece about resistance to mainstream Pridefest.

I’ll be all workshop focused for the next few days. I’m hoping to get to the Queer Pgh meeting on Wednesday evening and then Saturday, I’ll be part of Smoke and Mirrors on Penn Avenue.
