This morning, Ledcat dragged me out of bed at some ungodly hour for my post-operative check up with my surgeon, Dr. Lee Hammons.
The good news is that the news is good. My unexpected trip to the ER this Saturday produced a CT scan, bloodwork and more data for this visit. I’m healing. I don’t have a UTI or a bladder issue. I have a healing issue – the organs in my abdominal cavity are rearranging themselves without the familiar buffer of the uterus, the fallopian tubes, or the fibroids and cysts that have been there for who knows long. There is an empty space. This means my bladder and my rectum are getting acquainted without the interference of a reproductive organ.
I’ll spare you more details of that new relationship except to say that it is expectedly bumpy, but not inherently problematic.
But I have no cancer. Nothing was cancerous – not the tubes, the cysts, the fibroids, the uterus, the cervix, or the lining they removed. I still have my ovaries which will continue spitting eggs into my abdomal void until menopause, but my risk of ovarian cancer was just cut in half.
I go back in 3 months for another follow up visit and then I return to an annual schedule. Yes, I’ll still have internal exams to monitor the ovaries, but no PAP smears. Yay for that.
So I’ve been cleared to resume normal activities as the pain relents. The pain I feel now is because my bladder and rectum are adjusting. It hurts like Mother-effer at times and sometimes it is okay. So I’m not planning to try driving for a week and we’ll see what happens. I can, happily, lift a chihuahua and some furry kitties so that is cause for much rejoicing.
My number one priority is to continue resting – I’m still sleeping 11-12 hours a day. I also want to make sure Ledcat gets some rest. People are putting extra demands on her that are not fair given how mch she has to juggle.
I’m also on flu avoidance orders so if you don’t vaccinate, please don’t ask me to hang out with you. Dr. “Some people jog at 3 days out” is a big proponent of avoiding infectious people.
Then we have to clean the house. Go shopping. Etc.
I’m not up for a massage or anything like that now. What I’d like is a nice chair and foot massage while someone dusts my living room. That would be perfect.
Then I can start resuming other activities.
