Network Exhaustion

We’ve accomplished a lot together this year.

We’ve rescued and raised six homeless kittens, along with taking care of a feral colony. Plus, we collected A LOT of cat food to help other folks caretaking colonies. We’ve redirect lots of items destined for the landfill to help cats – blankets, towels, beds, etc.

We supported Black creators, we won a national award and a local one as well.  We wrote columns and tilted at windmills. We continued to #AMPLIFY.

We’ve sponsored People’s Pride 2K19. We were social media sponsors of the ReelQ Film Festival. We donated to too many individual crowdfunds to track without some serious digging into the records and files. You’ve helped me purchase meals for neighbors experiencing homelessness. You got injured pets the vet care they needed. You supported final expenses for friends and neighbors. We supported youth programs and more. You helped me help others.

tbh, I’m a little weary of asking you to donate to things and I’m sure you feel similar ways about my continued asking. So I’ve wrapped up everything except this ask for Homeless Cat Management Team and my ongoing donation sponsorship links (Paypal.Me/Pghlesbian, Patreon, etc.)

Now, let’s take a break.

Typically, I ramp up my fundraising and project asks around the holidays, but this year – I’m stepping back to allow others to do that work. No toy drives, no gift card drives, no coat drives, no appeals, no Day of Giving. I do reserve the right to respond to emergency needs, of course, but we all need a rest.

This is not a rest from blogging, not at all. Instead, it is a chance to refocus and frame my writing beyond constantly asking you for money. And this will be a HUGE challenge for me – I’ve been involved in holiday projects on an annual basis since 1999. It is time to step back and create room for new energy.

The blog has other sources of revenue. We now run ads from the SheKnowsMedia network. We participate in some promotional partnerships. I write for the Pittsburgh Current and occasionally, PublicSource. I’m working with a writing coach to increase my ‘pitchability’ to other publications. And we have our much appreciated sustaining monthly donors – yay for them! We began blogging at Medium.com as well.  We also continue to take on the role of social media sponsor at various events, including the upcoming first-ever Craftivist 2019.

We’ll continue to seek ways to diversify our funding streams so we can continue to do this work well. And rest assured, in 2020, we’ll be back with new and existing partnerships to promote and support.

Don’t hesitate to approach me with a private ask or to plan ahead for 2020 events.
