Another neighbor weighs in on the issue of equality in the Boy Scouts of America.
My three sons and I have been actively involved in Boy Scouting for over 12 years. My eldest son is an Eagle Scout. Scouting has been an incredible experience for my sons, helping them to develop unparalleled leadership skills, a deep sense of civic duty, a love of American history and a personal ethic of service to others, not to mention all of the fun and adventure! I can’t think of a more positive program for young men.
At different times in their lives, my sons have also been taught, mentored and befriended by men who are gay. Without reservation, I trust these men with the safety and well-being of my sons. More importantly, I trust them as role models of honor, courage, faithfulness and kindness — the attributes of any good Scout leader.
Thank you, Keith Kondrich of Swisshelm Park, for making time to share these very straightforward sentiments.
