Saturday Morning, I’ll Be in a Fake Holiday Parade Courtesy of YaJagoff and Duquesne Light

My adult dream was to be “Pittsburgh famous” enough to be invited to participate in the now-defunct Celebrate the Seasons Parade. I marched in it many times in high school, but I wanted to ride in a fancy car and wave to the crowds. And be warm.

Alas, that parade is no more. So I was incredibly thrilled when YaJagoff! reached out to invite me to be part of their #FakeHolidayParade
this weekend.

The concept is simple – the “floats” and performers remain stationary while John Chamberlin and Rachael Rennebeck drive around to interview participants. There’s a red mat entrance (the budget didn’t allow for a full carpet.)

We will be there representing our #pghcatfolx projects. My chief helper and elf, Elijah, has helped me conceive of a cat float. He will be with me – we have pink Santa hats to keep it queer – as will Laura Dunhoff.

You can’t be there, but you can watch via livestream. That’s much warmer. And apparently dry.

Maybe I’ll convince Laura to get a family photo with Santa Claus. Before he has to get back to work at the Heinz History Center …
So join us Saturday morning to have a fake parade. Does that mean I’m fake Pittsburgh famous? Hmmm ….
