Here is a list of the most widely read blog posts during 2021
- 84% of these posts are about the fatal campaign of terror targeting the trans community.
- One post is from the #AMPLIFY archive, the narrative of a local bisexual woman
- One post is actually the homepage for our ongoing Cat Food Drive projects.
- Another is about the February 2021 wedding of your truly and my wife, Laura in our backyard on Groundhogs Day
- A fourth post is about my 2018 hysterectomy
- And one post is a Q&A with local trans Latina activist Maria Montano who was voted ‘Best Thirsttrap’ in the 2021 Pittsburgh City Paper Readers Poll
- Several posts on this list were created before 2021 in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
This is a useful exercise for me to see what readers respond to each year. But it is also sad that so many posts year after year, posts about the murders of trans neighbors, are actually growing more widely read -I published 51st memorial post in the midst of writing this roundup. It is certainly good that people are reading them and, hopefully, coming away with some comfort or education. Yet the need to write them is also actually growing each year. That’s why I avoid the term ‘popular’ because it is a series of tragedies that fuel this list and that’s not anything to celebrate.
I don’t take for granted that anyone reads my blog (well, it annoys me that no one in my family does) so I appreciate a moment to reflect on all of this content. But this blog is more than all of the words and phrases and images strung together – it is a statement of visibility and representation – we ARE here and these are some of our experiences.
Happy New Year, friends and neighbors.
