Sue’s Birthday Fundraiser for Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities and #ProtectTransKids

October 22, 2022 will be my 52nd birthday. It is also the 1st ‘birthday’ of Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities, a 501c3 I founded to serve the community. It was pretty cool that the Department of State recognized us on that date.

For my birthday this year, I’m asking for donations to Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities. PLC is raising funds to #ProtectTransKids and currently responding to requests for support in Beaver County. A BC school district rescinded trans affirming policies, leaving fear and trauma behind. We want to send a message of love and support with yard signs and stickers.

Here in Allegheny County, multiple local radio stations are running horrible anti-trans spots leading up to the election – on WDVE, WAMO, WISH, WLTJ, and more.

None of this is okay.

It’s hard to celebrate in these circumstances.

Please stand with trans neighbors. We need to raise $1500 to get signs and stickers to Beaver County residents in early November. We need to raise funds to get more signs and stickers out to offset the harmful radio messaging. It will make you weep. And we need your tears and anger and outrage to send trans kids a sign.$2000 in two weeks is daring.

I’m sharing some birthday images from previous years …

Here’s a photo from a kids birthday party at the McDonald’s near our home on Route 51 in Pleasant Hills, PA. This was one of the early party rooms. I’m in the front center and my lifelong friend Amy Koempel Lee is next to me. My younger brother Jimmy and her younger sister Lorie are across the table from us. This was circa 1977.

I found this is my grandmother’s things – the invitation to the baby shower for me! My Aunt Irene Kerr hosted the shower for my mother, Kerry. It was held on Saturday, August 22, 1970 at 8 PM.

In some ways this is the first party I attended, right?

I hope my mum was happy at the party. I wonder who else was there? Probably my other aunts, my great-grandmother, my maternal grandmother.

It is girly for sure but I actually like this vibe.
