There seems to be a new trend in reporting to report anti-trans attacks as ‘anti-LGBTQ’ without further detail on the victim. That’s according to Anna-Jayne Metfalfe. Further details often reveal the victim was either trans or perceived to be trans. This is a disturbingly misleading trend in media as well as the seemingly increase in anti-trans violence overall.
April 9, 2024 – A transgender man assaulted at a Benson bar in Omaha, Nebraska.
May 30, 2024 – A transgender student is speaking out along with their family after allegedly being assaulted while using the bathroom in their Minnetonka, Minnesota, high school.
July 17, 2024 – a 31-year-old man was approached by an unidentified suspect who allegedly voiced anti-LGBTQ remarks and then hit the victim, according to police. Rockaway Parkway-Canarsie station in Brooklyn
August 11, 2024 – A 23-year-old Troy, NY man faces rape charges after he was accused of having non-consensual sex with his transgender male roommate in the male dorm at Glenmont Job Corps on River Road
August 17, 2024 – The suspect, described as a white male in his mid-20s to early 30s with black, curly hair, wearing black sweatpants and a light-colored t-shirt, allegedly got off a bicycle and physically assaulted the victim During the assault, the suspect also allegedly made derogatory comments about the victim’s gender identity
Saturday, August 17, 2024 – A 29-year-old man was yelled at and punched in the face by a stranger in an apparently unprovoked attack on the A train near Columbus Circle in August, police said. The alleged assailant voiced anti-LGBTQ
Friday, August 29, 2024 – Jayden Tkaczyk, 16, was was badly beaten by a large group of other teens in Gloucester, Massachusetts. He and his mother say he was targeted for being a trans teen.
Tuesday, September 17, 2024 – several parents were specifically targeting and harassing one transgender student. They said they were displaying signs and also wore armbands with “XX” on one side, which references female chromosomes.
Tuesday, September 18, 2024 – Jonas W. Hobbs, 19, of Mannsville, North Carolina started to send homicidal threats and homophobic slurs through Instagram, troopers said. He also sent a photo of a gun, troopers said. The target was a transgender woman.
Pay attention. Make sure to circulate news reports. Hold the media accountable. Be alert in reveal life and be prepared to step in, to deescalate, to deflect, and to defenc.
