On Tuesday, Gertie refused to start. For first time readers, Gertie aka St. Gertrude is the Land Rover Defender a friend lent me. Because he could.
On Wednesday, I called AAA. My service provider Josh was absolutely thrilled to see the “coolest vehicle I’ve ever serviced.” Sadly, Josh was unable to get her started and stay started. After a confab with Gertie’s COO, Dave, they determined if was the alternator.
AAA trucks don’t happen to carry alternators for Land Rover Defenders on their truck. So we tucked Gertie in and Dave told me she had to go to the garage.
Friday, my friend Sarah came over. We spent about 20 minutes trying to remove the seat to get to the battery (yep), but once uncovered – the jump worked. And we drove to Bloomfield to return her to Dave’s capable hands.
It will take a week for the part to come in. Then an unknown amount of time to get the repair – apparently her alternator is in the worst possible place requiring the most possible work.
Gertie will return, but the date is unknown. So I am once again reliant on friends to haul me around for my errands. I have good friends who will help me, but I feel the loss of freedom and competence that came with Gertie.
If you live near me and we know each other in real life, I probably could use a ride.
