Sunday, my youngest nephew, E, made his theatrical debute in Legally Blonde, JR. He played the villainous law professor.
The evening show curtain opened at 6 PM. I had seated myself with his mom’s, turning off phone alerts. So it was only after the show that I found this text from him. 2 minutes after curtain time.
“Are you here?”

E had a lot of support. His moms stayed for both shows. His older brother brought Pap for the matinee. His maternal aunt Ruth brought her partner and their toddler for the evening.
I was happy to be there, but I had not realized it meant something to him. Enough for him to reach out to me at that moment.
I have a review to post, but this post is just about a simple point – show up. Be the adult you needed in your life.
When a 13-year-old initiates a text chat with you immediately before he’s about to do something BIG … cherish that moment.
And keep showing up.
