Sue is the founder of Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents blog, established in 2005.. She has an MSW from the University in Pittsburgh and a BA in Political Science from Marymount University. Her undergraduate claim to fame is a six month stint as an intern with then Congressman Rick Santorum in 1991. Born and raised in West Mifflin, Sue attended college in Washington DC, then graduate school in Louisiana and ended up in Kentucky doing social service ministry. She returned to Pittsburgh in 1997. She now lives on Pittsburgh’s Northside with her wife, Laura. Sue and her wife have fostered over 25 kittens through Pittsburgh CAT and Homeless Cat Management Team, and now manage multiple community cat colonies in their neighborhood. In 2020, Sue cofounded the Pittsburgh MasQUe ProjecT to support the queer and trans community during the pandemic, distributing tens of thousands of face masks and other supplies throughout the region. In 2021, Sue created the #PghCatFolx projects to support neighbors working with community cats. Under that heading came the Dr. John P. Ruffing DVM Pet Food Projects, memorializing one of her very best friends who died in 2007. In 2021, Sue worked with community leaders to develop and establish a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Pittsburgh LGBTQ Charities (PLC) where she currently serves as Board President. PLC absorbed the #PghCatFolx projects. She uses both her undergraduate and graduate degrees on a regular basis as a blogger and activist and regularly circulates her 1991 internship photo just to shake things up on her social media feeds. Her own experiences with cPTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and other health challenges have fueled her health blogging and activism. She also writes extensively about her family history, drawing on her amateur genealogy hobby. The blog regularly reviews arts and cultural events as well as exploring restaurants, soap opera storylines, and hyper-local news. Sue and her wife Laura have been together since 2003. They were married on a very cold February 2, 2021 in their backyard at a very small ceremony co-officiated by their pagan priestess friend, Anne, and then-Mayor Bill Peduto. They have six niblings, four in Pittsburgh and two in Philadelphia.

A few recent words from the AFA of PA

A few recent words from the AFA of PA

Just in case you are wondering what Pennsylvan's Christian-flavored bigots (haters, not the lovers) have been up to: On HB 300 (yawn).  More ignorant appeals to religious discrimination.  I certainly don't expect Catholic Charities to hire homosexuals.  I do expect them to comply with the law if they accept public funding.  This is about GREED, […]

Friday morning stuff

Friday morning stuff

The ER finale was pretty good. I think the opening of Dr. Carter's medical center was a bit over the top, but bringing in Mark Green's daughter was mad genius.  I also thought it was weird that Dr. Carter practiced medicine at County because I thought you need privileges and insurance to practice.  There a touching […]

Dykes on Bikes go political

Dykes on Bikes go political

Another event from Pittsburgh's Newest queer group, the Dykes on Bikes.  This is their third benefit in less than six months.  And you thought they were just a PrideFest contingent.  Ha!  Check out this event with gay comedy, free drinks and the chance to make meaningful impact. Oh do those Biker Dykes ever stop?  Not in […]

City-County Merger Plans Going Nowhere and That’s a Good Thing

Today's Post-Gazette examines the lack of momentum on plans for a City-County merger, mainly due to a failure to act on the part of the state Legislature.  You can read all those exciting details about debt reduction and political machinations here. I live in the City and my partner works for the City.  I also own […]

This is not random.  Iraq is set to execute more than 100 people beginning next week.  Among them are individuals convicted of homosexuality.  Groups from the UN to Amnesty International are intervening on the basis that the […]

The coolest people to follow on Twitter …

The coolest people to follow on Twitter …

I was facebooking with a nameless colleague about finding interesting people to follow on twitter. I'm following Ashton Kutcher based on the recommendations of Television Without Pity.  I also follow Ellen but she's pretty quiet.  Ashton is fairly active. Locally, I follow my friends and a few politicians.  I have to admit a lot of […]

I am Wolverine!

The transformation from cuddly Siamese kitty to mutant superhero begins as Coco/Wolverine subdues her foe. Uh oh … our mutant superhero is overcome by her foe …. Don't let her fuzzy cuteness detract from her vicious attack of the renegade (but 100% recycled content) paper towel roll.

Earth Hour

Earth Hour

Bill Peduto is asking you to turn off the lights from 8:30 – 9:30 tonight to help raise awareness about environmental issues.  Can you do that?  Can I?  Ledcat is going out tonight so I am wondering if I can cheat by turning out my lights and using my laptop battery?  Does that count?
