View Article  TV Station Receives Death Threats for Book of Daniel

Fresh off a scintillating ;-) discussion with John McIntire about the merits and woes of NBC's Book of Daniel, I find this at 365gay.com.

Terre Haute, Indiana) Police in Terre Haute are investigating death threats against the manager and program director at  KWBF-TV after the station decided to run the NBC series "The Book of Daniel".

Executives at the station have been given security, and guards are posted at the studios.

Terre Haute's NBC affiliate refused to air the show's premiere Friday after pressure from the American Family Association and area pastors. KWBF, a WB affiliate then agreed to run the series. (story)

Threats to the station began pouring in shortly after it made the announcement. They continued after the show aired and police were called in.

Station manager Gary Robbins defends the decision to run the series and says despite the threats there are no plans to cancel it.

"We've had hate mail, we've had hate phone calls... but there's no profanity in this show, there's no indecency, there's no nudity," he said.

Death threats??? Over a television show that's about 10 degrees less contentious than Desperate Housewives and much less provocative than any crime drama on the air.

This shouldn't be such a big deal.  But the television employees in Terre Haute shouldn't have to deal with this kind of crap.  This is what happens when you cave into censorship ... you feed the beast which only continues to hunger for more.  These homo-haters would eat their young if it brought attention to their cause.

Do your part to fight back  Hug a homo.  Or take a homo to lunch.

It was bound to happen I suppose, but geez it was cool.  A friend of mine, libertarian in his views but openminded in his practices, mentioned that he stumbled across my blog while wasting his precious personal time on the Internet.

I was all smiles.

Then he asked me if I've had any other visitors :-(

I guess now I'll find out ...

View Article  Ricky and Friends: "Don't Fool With the Church"

Yesterday, Rick and his hate-mongerer-in-Christian-clothing buddies spewed the typical claptrap at Justice Sunday III

Mr. Santorum said "extreme liberal judges" are "destroying traditional morality and creating a new moral code."

"The Supreme Court has become the supreme branch of the government imposing its unrestrained will on all of the people," Mr. Santorum said. "The only way to restore this Republic our founders envisioned is to elevate honorable jurists like Samuel Alito who will help replace the hubris of this court with humility and respect for the common sense of the American people."

I thought the Supreme Court is supposed to respect the US CONSTITUTION.

Rick -- was it humble to steal taxpayer monies to pay for your children's education?  was it respectful to lie about the occupants of your Penn Hills residence?

And here come the threats ...

The Rev. Herbert H. Lusk, who leads Greater Exodus, railed against gay marriage, abortion and what he termed as Christian-bashing, and warned that those who trifle with "people of god" will face consequences.

"Don't fool with the church," said Rev. Lusk, "because the church has buried many a critic, and all the critics we have not buried we're making funeral arrangements for."

Can you just hear the rumbling background to the "Its not nice to fool with mother nature" commercials?

I wonder if the funeral will be in consecrated or unconsecrated ground?

But back to Rick ... seriously, did he think that this would redeem his fundie-whacko street cred?  Bash a few homos, pray with Jerry Fallwell and what ... your flip-flop on Intelligent Design is forgotten?

How much respect is he showing for the common sense of American Christians?

View Article  10 Reasons Gay Marriage is Wrong

This is making the rounds.  Found it at HouseBlend

Ten Reasons Gay Marriage Is Wrong
1. Being gay is not natural. And as you know Americans have always rejected unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because, as you know, a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed. The sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Nice twist on all the usual junk spewing forth from the sanctimonious homophobes.

I'm off to go put a chink in Rick Santorum's marriage by having breakfast with my partner.

Two hour premiere tonight.   Found it to be engaging, more reminiscent of Picket Fences than Joan of Arcadia. With a salty dash of Desperate Housewives tossed in or perhaps it was the similar background music?  Either way, the gay characters are soooo not the biggest issue for the American Family Association.

This show has several flavors of adultery, cursing, premarital sex, drug usage, illegal downloading from the Internet, the mafia, gossip, xenophobia, greed, etc.  And that's just in the first episode.

It is a cornucopia of scandal!

As an unabashed soap opera addict, I'll be tuning in each week.
