This from 365gay.com
(Terre Haute, Indiana) NBC affiliate WTWO has become the first station to announce that it will not carry the program "The Book of Daniel" following pressure from the American Family Association. <snip> The American Family Association has been calling for its members to complain to NBC affiliates about the show which features one of primetime's few openly gay male characters, has a lesbian supporting character and is written by a gay screenwriter. The series is planned to debut January 6 at 9:00 pm E/P time. <snip> Earlier this week the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation called on its members to show support for the series which already has garnered good reviews. GLAAD is asking people to call the network and their affiliate stations and say they are looking forward to watching the series.
Here's how to contact Pittsburgh's WPXI I just left a message on the programming director's voice mail. I've been mulling over watching this show because I really enjoyed Joan of Arcadia. Frankly, my interest had little to do with the gay character and much more to do with the overall premis. AFA's objections pretty much guarantee that I will be planted in front of my television tomorrow night. The AFA keeps slinging mud at LGBT allies, but recent history clearly indicates that we are not a market to be ignored. Interesting that this show debutes on Justice Sunday III weekend? Sue

The women at Penn State aren't fairing well in the hands of the current Administration. Women basketball players have been enduring the homophobic tyranny of Rene Portland for years. and this from today's Post-Gazette ...
The only sour note is that JoePa appears not to have understood the seriousness of a sex assault charge made against a Florida State athlete. Mr. Paterno's comment Monday was unfortunate. He said the player "may not even have known what he was getting into. ... A cute little girl knocks on the door. What do you do? Geez ... thank God, they don't knock on my door." While Coach deserves to bask in how his players performed on the gridiron, he should spend the off-season thinking about how athletes should conduct themselves off the field. UNFORTUNATE? Because he's from a different generation? Because he's a beloved sports icon? Because his team won? His comments are not unfortunate. His underlying beliefs are unfortunate. So boys will be boys and stay away from the filthy dykes. How very 20th century. Sue Wednesday, January 4

From PageOneQ ... Good news from Arizona ...
History was made Tuesday, Jan. 3, when the first open Lesbian was named to the Arizona Senate. By a unanimous vote during their weekly meeting, the Pima County Board of Supervisors named Paula Aboud (r) to the vacant District 28 State Senate seat for the remainder of the term. Aboud succeeds Gabrielle Giffords, who resigned to run for the Democratic nomination for the open U.S. House seat for Congressional District 8. <snip> With Aboud?s appointment, Arizona will have three openly Gay and Lesbian individuals serving in the Arizona State Legislature, she will join Ken Cheuvront, D-Phoenix in the Senate and Robert Meza, D-Phoenix currently sits in the Arizona House.

My favorite line of the morning thus far from 2 Political Junkies
Rick Santorum - a man of strict principles, until he needs to win an election. This calls for full confession -- in 1991, I spent six months as a legislative intern for then-Congressman Rick Santorum. I was 20 years old and hopelessly heterosexual. I was also assigned there after winning a scholarship from the Pittsburgh Foundation. It wasn't a bad place to be at the time. I did find the atmosphere to be a bit too "servant of the cause" for my taste, especially given that I was a Democrat. I did learn quite a bit (enough to leave DC after graduation and head for graduate school versus trying to work in government). Fast forward 10 years ... it is 2001 and I'm a social worker in the Mon Valley for a coalition of human service agencies. I attend a groundbreaking ceremony for a new housing unit and run smack into Rick. He sizes me up, shakes my hand and says "Did you work for me at one time?" (or something to that effect). I confirmed my internship and he pleasantly asked me a few follow up questions. I was charmed in spite of myself. Given that I was on the clock, I had left my rainbow button at home. Fast forward to now ... I despise what Rick Santorum does in the name of politics, religion and family values. His behavior and his attitude are reprehensible. He has a gay staffer for crying out loud! But I don't hate him (or his lifestyle). Sue
